The After Aries series is a collection of digital photo-collages that is a continuation of my grandma’s creative practice combined with my own art practice. The quilt in these photos is not exactly how it appears in reality. I wanted to show where the quilt lives now, so I layered the quilt images with photos of Lake Huron, an important place to my grandparents where we gathered as a family. In the subsequent images, I altered the colours as a way of imagining my grandparents’ spirits moving beyond death. I later photographed more quilts my grandmother made, and I introduced elements of where those blankets reside through natural light. The After Aries series is a means of communicating with loved ones after they are gone.
